USPS mail forwarding is just the start -- here's the full list of who actually needs your new address once you're in Napa Valley.
Forward Your Mail
- USPS Official Change of Address ↗ File 90 days before your move up to 30 days after. Online filing has a $1.25 identity-verification fee (pay by card); the paper PS Form 3575 at any Post Office is free. First-Class and Priority Mail forward for 12 months. Beware third-party sites charging $40+ -- the Postal Service no longer works with them.
Who Else Needs Your New Address
- Bank & credit cards: Update online or by phone -- most banks flag an address mismatch and can freeze card use.
- Employer / payroll & HR: Needed for your W-2 and any mailed benefits paperwork.
- Auto, home/renters & health insurance: Rates and coverage can change with your address -- update before, not after, a claim.
- Subscriptions & memberships: Streaming, magazines, gyms, meal kits -- anything billing a card on file.
- Voter registration: Re-register at your new address -- see the Driver's License & Vehicle Registration page.
- DMV -- driver's license & vehicle registration: Most states require this within days of becoming a resident -- see the Driver's License & Vehicle Registration page.
- Passport (if you travel internationally): A U.S. passport doesn't print your address, so there's nothing to update on the document itself -- but if you're enrolled in the State Department's free STEP program, update your address there, and it's a good moment to check your expiration date.
- Utility providers (old address): Close out or transfer final billing so you're not paying for a place you've left.
- Friends, family & doctors: Easy to forget, hardest to fix months later if a bill or prescription goes to the wrong address.
